Sex Offenses

Sex Offenses

The mere accusation of a sex offense can have devastating effects on your reputation. A conviction for a sex offense can result in lifetime sex offender registration. Placement on the sex offender registry can make it difficult to find housing and jobs. Both misdemeanor and felony sex offense convictions will remain on your record for the rest of your life.

Categories of Sex Crimes:

Oregon has created varying degrees of sexual abuse based on a number of factors. The least serious is Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, which is classified as a Class A misdemeanor. The most serious include charges of Rape or Sexual Abuse in the First Degree which are class A and B felonies that carry mandatory minimum prison terms upon conviction or charges involving child sex abuse material. Generally, the varying degrees are broken down as follows:

1. Rape or Sexual Abuse in the First Degree

Involves cases of non-consensual or forcible sexual intercourse.

2. Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the First or Second Degree

Involves cases of possession or distribution of child sex abuse material.

3. Sex Abuse and Sodomy in the Second Degree:

Involves cases of non-consensual sexual contact or intercourse that do not involve force.

4. Sexual Abuse or Sodomy in the Third Degree:

Involves cases where non-consensual sexual contact occurs but does not rise to the level of a felony.
